My passion for skating started at a young age. My buddy BUFO had me always „in tow“. At that time he began to build surfboards and loved any kind of board sports. However, as an active skateboarder, I started late. It was not until the age of 17 when I really got on a board.

SKATEBOARDING is LIFESTYLE

What remains today is the lifestyle that conveys the skating. Although there have been various changes over the years, a certain feeling remains unchanged in the same manner. Being on a board, the noise of the wheels on asphalt or in the ramp and feeling the speed just makes BIG FUN. Even if you completely relish cruising through the park to make a few swings, it is a great sport and somehow a special cult.

At that time I helped BUFO a little bit and had taken some steps such as grinding and laminating boards that he had shaped. So I have some experience with this, and as a trained carpenter, I love working with wood.

A few years ago BUFO came by when he started to build skateboards out of the waste from his surfboards productions. With a few trucks and boards under his arms he told me to screw it together for my son so that he also can begin to skate. When my son was actually developed enthusiasm for the sport, my motivation was born, even to build boards, because the material was not sufficient. So I began in Old School manner to shapen solid wood boards and intensify our hobby again.

MASSIVHOLZ SKATEBOARDS – SOLID WOOD is OLD SCHOOL

I have a few contacts, for example, access to a sawmill and I know people who are working in the wood processing industry. I like to browse through the waste there. The wood what is not for the industry due to the grain or roots and cannot be processed is precisely very interesting for me. My boards are to bring out the beauty of the wood and its individual style.

Extremely exciting to me is when such a piece of wood jumps into my eyes and its shape somehow looks special. Then immediately an idea goes through my head how the board could look like in the end, what name it gets and how I can emphasize accordingly the shape. As one of my first boards that looked like an alligator.

The processing is entirely handmade – just 100% organic. I just like to bring the nature in combination to the skating. The material is then first planed and sanded until it meets my expectations and the desired shape and design. This takes sometimes even two days until it is matured and my eyes like the aesthetics, asymmetries and symmetries. Subsequently, the boards are oiled and refinished several times, depending on the type of wood. It takes at least a week until it is finally finished. The wood species vary, I have processed all kinds in principle: Fruits such as apple, pear or cherry wood and other native hardwoods such as oak and ash. If it is to be with my conscience tropical hardwood is used as well, unless it otherwise is just lying around anyway as waste. Otherwise, I prefer protection of our tropical forests!

The difference from the conventional boards should really be clear to everyone. These boards even do not compete with the conventional long and skateboards. I am a solid wood DESIGNER and my boards are to be seen as an artwork and its use is seen more as a pure asphalt cruiser. What makes it particularly flat, is their uniqueness. Each board is absolutely UNIQUE – there is simply no second, in its form, with its individual grain and design, with or without a grip.

I constantly have new ideas. When a board is done for the day, the next piece of wood falls into my hands and the next design is born. The experience with that hand work gives me always new opportunities. The creativity knows no bounds and it seems not to stop.

Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE

Sometimes I ‚m planning something that actually is absolutely too crazy in terms of cost, but if I have this thing done, I’ve been amazed at what is possible with this type of boards. That is the charm and of course cool to go skating with the final product.

The feeling to cruise with a solid wood skateboard is really something special. This is confirmed to me over and over again, even though the boards bring almost no flex / tension and an ollie is almost impossible. But everyone needs to just try and judge it himself how that is.
